Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators

SCBWI The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators was founded in 1971 with two members. As of July 2000, SCBWI is the largest professional writing organization in the world, with over 13,000 members located around the globe.

SCBWI is dedicated to assisting individuals working in the fields of children's books, multimedia, magazines, film, and television. Whether a beginner, a famous author or illustrator, an educator, a bookstore owner, an editor, or an enthusiast, SCBWI has much to offer everyone, including two annual international conferences, regional events, work-in-progress grants, a bi-monthly newsletter, informational publications, marketing data, and a supportive community with a shared passion.

SCBWI's international headquarters is located in Los Angeles, California. It is through contact with that office that all individuals join SCBWI. Memberships are international, and make one eligible for tuition discounts at SCBWI events, wherever they are held.

There are over 70 Regional Chapters of SCBWI around the world. Every regional chapter is run entirely by volunteers with the goal of providing events and support at the local level. Some chapters cover a single county, while others are responsible for numerous states or an entire country! Each chapter is watched over by an appointed volunteer, called the Regional Advisor, who coordinates activities for her/his geographic area.

Please check out the international  SCBWI  website to learn more about the organization, its benefits and how to become a member.
