Paula Allen, a 27 year veteran in the publishing and licensing world, worked at Barnes & Noble for 15 years as a buyer and merchandise manager before joining Warner Bros. in 1994. As VP of publishing at WB, Paula oversaw the global publishing initiatives of the studio and managed an international team of licensing and publishing agents. In 2005, Paula started Screenland Literary Associates and has been working with children’s authors, as well as consulting with corporations on their publishing strategies. She specializes in picture books, middle grade readers.
Jamie Weiss Chilton represents children's books exclusively:
teen novels, middle grade fiction, chapter books, picture books, and
narrative nonfiction. Her specific interests include literary fiction
with intense emotional content (character-driven, not issue-driven plots);
smart thrillers and mysteries; science fiction; surreal stories and
magical realism; sweet, funny, quirky chapter books and picture books.
Jamie's career in children's books began in 1998, with an editorial
internship at Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, followed by positions
as an Editorial Assistant and Assistant Editor at Bantam Delacorte Dell,
Wendy Lamb Books, and Knopf & Crown Books for Young Readers, all
divisions of Random House Children's Books. After returning to her hometown
of Los Angeles, Jamie pursued her love of children's books in a new
arena, as Conference Manager and Golden Kite Award Director at the Society
of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
Jamie believes that one great way to get to know someone is through
their taste in books. Favorites that she worked on in an editorial capacity
while at Random House include ACCELERATION and SPARKS
by Graham McNamee, TROUBLE DON'T LAST and CROOKED RIVER
by Shelley Pearsall, ZIPPED by Laura and Tom McNeal, DAUGHTER
OF VENICE by Donna Jo Nappoli, and THE GIANT HUG by Sandra
Horning, Illustrated by Valeri Gorbachev. Jamie holds a BA in English
from Columbia University, and has completed a series of editorial workshops
at the Center for Children's Books.
Lindsay Davis is a junior agent in the West Coast office of Writers House, where she has worked with Steven Malk since April of 2006. Prior to joining Writers House, Lindsay worked in the children's marketing department at Harcourt, and taught fourth grade as a member of Teach for America. While actively building her own list, she has had the pleasure of working with such well-known authors for children and young adults as Jon Scieszka, Lane Smith, Kadir Nelson, Cynthia Rylant, Deborah Wiles, Jennifer Donnelly, and Sara Pennypacker.
Alyssa Eisner Henkin is a 1998 graduate of the University
of Pennsylvania and the Radcliffe Publishing Course. Before joining
Trident, she spent over seven years as an editor in the children’s
division at Simon & Schuster where she edited the New York Times
bestselling Little Quack, The Theodore Seuss Geisel Award recipient,
Henry and Mudge, and the acclaimed The Wedding Planner’s Daughter.
In December of 2006 Alyssa joined Trident Media Group as an agent for
children’s books with an emphasis on contemporary middle grade,
tween, and young adult novels. She is actively growing her client list,
and seeks humorous voices, regional flavors, adventures, school stories,
reality-based fantasies, tales of first love, and mysteries.
Upcoming titles include: Amaranth, a tween fantasy novel about
a young girl who reclaims her birthright in an enchanted kingdom by
Julie Berry; Canterwood Crest, a tween series about a young
equestrian who learns to compete with her school’s riding elite
by Jessica Burkhart; My Life In Pink & Green, a tween debut
about a seventh grader who finds a way to save the family business and
the environment, too by Lisa Greenwald; Homelanders, a young
adult series about a teenager who must thwart the assassination of the
Secretary of State and protect America from terrorists by Andrew Klavan;
Across The Fence: A Fictional WWII Scrapbook by Beverly Patt;
Identical Crisis, a tween trilogy about identical twins who
switch schedules, lockers, and lives by authors Jennifer Roy and her
twin sister Julia DeVillers; and One of The Survivors, a young
adult novel about healing and redemption in the aftermath of a school
fire by Susan Shaw.
Rachel Orr joined Prospect Agency in 2007, after eight rewarding years editing children's books for HarperCollins. She enjoys the challenge of tackling a wide variety of projects - both fiction and nonfiction - particularly picture books, beginning readers, chapter books, and middle-grade/YA novels. Rachel is drawn to stories with strong characters and a strong voice (particularly first person), fresh coming-of-age stories, humorous stories, and stories that focus on multicultural issues. She values her close relationships with authors and believes that nothing feels as good as a fresh, clean line edit. Rachel is also interested in developing new artists at Prospect Agency and has started to build a list of illustrators. In addition to her role as an agent, Rachel is also an author, and she has written a biography about Abigail Adams for the Time For Kids biography series. Rachel is currently accepting submissions via the Prospect Agency website at http://www.prospectagency.com
