Three Chapters = Lots of Exciting Events!Each of the three chapters that make up the SCBWI Tri-Regions of Southern California has an exciting array of yearly conferences, workshops, schmoozes, and retreats that focus on honing the skills of writers and illustrators, and help keep our members in touch with the publishing community. - Writer's Workshop: Winter - half-day workshop featuring speaker
demonstrating nuts and bolts techniques on the craft of writing for
children.
- Writer's Day: Spring - a one-day conference featuring
speakers, a professional forum, writing contests, and awards.
- Critiquenic: Summer - free, informal critiquing sessions
for writers and illustrators facilitated by published authors/illustrators,
held after a picnic lunch.
- Writer's & Illustrator's Sunday Field Trip: Summer- hands-on
creative field trip for writers and illustrators.
- Working Writer's Retreat: Winter - a three-day, two-night retreat
featuring an editor, speakers, and intensive critiquing.

SCBWI Orange County/San Bernardino/Riverside:
- Workshops: Two or three workshops offered annually. In each, a guest author or illustrator leads a discussion on a selected topic
- Spring Writer's Retreat: Spend a weekend under the stars in Palm Springs while honing your craft with guest editors, speakers, workshops, and round table critiques.

- Critiquenics: Mold your manuscript into shape with a fun, supportive group.
- Illustrator's Field Trip: Bring your sketchpad and / or camera and let your creativity flow.
- Writer's Day: A one-day conference with guest authors and editors
and plenty of hands-on workshops.

SCBWI Ventura/Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo/and Kern County:
- Writer's Day: A one-day conference addressing both the craft
and the business of writing for children.
- Retreat: A three day, two-night intensive. Alternating years
focus on works-in-progress and business issues such as school visits
and promotion.
- Workshops: Half-day to full-day sessions that teach a specific
skill, offer advice or provide hands-on experiences.
- Illustrator’s Day: A one-day event focusing on the business
of illustrating books for children.
- Critiquenics: Each county hosts one or two informal critiquing
sessions each year.
- Scholarships: Available to two qualifying members for tuition
to a major SCBWI conference. May deadline.
- Promoting Published Members: Annual PowerPoint presentation
at Writer’s Day. List of members who visit schools.
- Listserv: A forum for sharing tips on craft and business,
asking questions about the industry, and celebrating members’
good news.
