This year Illustrator’s Day featured a portfolio
room, open all day. Local art directors, editors and industry professionals
were invited to view portfolios. Prizes were awarded in two categories
“Professional Choice Award” and “People’s Choice
Award”.
Professional’s Choice Award winner, Catia Chien.
People’s Choice Award winner, David Swain.
Illustrator Gris Grimly shared his experiences
writing and illustrating for children's books, and discussed his newest
film project.
Kim Keith (Manager of Nickelodeon Animation Development) discussed how to pitch a kid's animation project to Nickelodeon.
Illustrator William Joyce showcased some of his newest books and animation projects.
Sara Gillingham (Chronicle Books Design Manager) gave a very
infomative talk on the nuts and bolts of children's book Illustration.
Sara Gillingham, Design Manager of Chronicle Books, selected 3 winners in the second annual juried Illustrator’s Day Art Competition. Each entry illustrated a “memory from first grade.” Illustrations could be rendered in any medium, style or interpretation. Our first place winner was Mary Peterson. First Runner Up, David Swain. Second Runner Up, Teen Liu.
